2024, Is this the Last Gay Pride in Paris? Discover Our Disturbing Micro-Sidewalk!

Could Paris, the city of love and freedom, see its last pride march in 2024?

The day before the first round of the legislative elections, our HappyGayTV team walked the streets of the French capital during Gay Pride to ask a burning question: "Do you think this will be our last Gay Pride?"

This year's Pride March wasn't just a celebration. It took place in a tense political context, marked by the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Emmanuel Macron on June 9, 2024. The polls predict a fractured assembly, with a worrying rise of the far right and the leftmost. Faced with these predictions, many fear for the future of LGBT rights in France.

Discover Participants’ Reactions

In our video report, participants express both concern and hope. The tension was palpable in the streets, but the resilience of the LGBT community was also present. Some recall past struggles, such as those against pink triangles and AIDS, to emphasize that the community has overcome similar challenges before.

A Powerful Message from Marco DRION Presenter of HappyGayTV

Marco Drion, our presenter, underlines a crucial point: “Let us never forget that bad winds can come from the extreme right as well as from the extreme left. Let us remain united and vigilant. World history has shown us this. When any community is discriminated against, in word or deed, then the fate of LGBT people is systematically threatened. The history of the 20th century has demonstrated this to us unequivocally and violently.”

This quote particularly resonates during this election period. As Simone de Beauvoir said: “Our rights are never acquired, let’s remain vigilant.”

Result of the Legislative Elections: A Precarious Situation for LGBT Rights

Indeed, the danger is averted for the moment, since the left-wing coalition, the “New Popular Front”, has become the majority group in the National Assembly with 182 seats. However, they did not obtain the absolute majority of 289 seats, required in an assembly with 557 deputies. The coalition around the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron only obtained 163 seats. The far-right party, the National Rally, made a worrying progression, going from 88 to 143 seats, becoming the leading party in France. The various rights obtained 68 seats and the various lefts 11 seats.

The danger is far from over. Although the “New Popular Front” has managed to avoid domination by the extreme right, the strong progress of the National Rally remains worrying. Their increase from 88 to 143 seats shows a significant increase in power. Even if future Gay Pride events seem assured for the moment, the threat persists. The LGBT community must stick together and overcome its internal disputes to face the rise of the far right. Vigilance and unity are more crucial than ever to protect our rights and freedom.

What if Paris 2024 was our very last Gay Pride or Pride parade ? Hello, my little ones, good morning to you all! The footage you're about to watch was shot on the eve of the first round of the elections in France, following the dissolution of the National Assembly, on June 9, 2024, by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron.

Polls point to a split assembly with the rise in power of the right-wing extremist as well as the left-wing extremists. Does this mean that LGBT rights are in danger and that this 2024 Gay Pride may well be our very last Gay Pride? That's right, just like Simone de Beauvoir said about women's rights: "Never forget that all it takes is a political crisis,

or religious crisis, for women's rights to be questioned. These rights can never be taken for granted. You must remain alert for the rest of your lives". Personally, I've always been convinced that LGBT rights were intrinsically linked to women's rights. Here's why, here on HappyGayTV, we think that this present moment is quite serious. So off we went walking with our camera

during the parade and we asked this question to everyone who crossed our path. This Gay Pride, this Marche des fiertés 2024, could it be the very last? And as you can see in our report, on the scene, things were already tense... Take a look! [Sung] HappyGayTV Oh no, I hope not! It's not the last one, it's not the last one,

It won't. That's it... And it goes on and on, it will continue, for sure! We're certainly afraid that this could be our last Pride today. You can feel the tension right now in terms of communication, within families, as well as within the society. When we discuss family matters during family gatherings, you can feel the tension out there, which is more and more apparent, yes! I certainly hope not! Just a bit earlier...

I arrived, I had something to eat and while I'm waiting for the Pride to start a small fight broke out between anti-gay people and actual gays. Flour was thrown, eggs, tear gas, and everything. Not very cool though... Anyway, if you don't respect gays, if you don't like them, leave them alone and that's it! Well, it can't be.

It's impossible to stop once it starts to move. In my opinion yes, this could be the last Gay Pride. It's going to be very tricky for the future, mainly because of the rise of the RN and we're going to have less and less rights and it's going to be difficult! So I must admit that it's a bit scary, the fact that it might be the last one. But I have this sense of optimism in me that says it won't.

We'll be enough, to battle it out and hope to keep it going. And it won't stop just like that! What I know, is that the entire history of LGBT people, is one of struggle. We've never given in. We're more and more in numbers to fight it out. Of course, with the terrible results, we're going to witness in these legislative elections, life will be harder.

But I think we might be, and I hope, more united. And I don't think this will be the last of Pride Parades or the last authorized pride marches, we'll do it anyway, in memory of all those who were before us and those who will follow. We need to be ready. At times, we're more focused on taking on

each other, rather than be "united" and go forward together and stand our ground! I hope, this won't be the last pride here in Paris, and I hope things will change, for the good of France, for the city of Paris, for the good of the world. [Sung] HappyGayTV Let's never forget that bad storms can blow in,

from the extreme right-wing as from the extreme left-wing parties. Let's stay united and alert. History has shown us that, when a community, regardless of its nature, is persecuted by word or action, then the fate of LGBT is systematically at risk. Our history of the XXᵉ century has shown us this without a doubt and fiercely. Let's stay united! Let's not forget the pink triangles,

deportations to the gulags, the fact that our community has been wiped out by AIDS, while having to battle against the immobility of the public authorities in France in particular, to name but a few. examples. As Simone de Beauvoir once said, our rights will never guaranteed. We must remain alert. Fortunately, as history has also shown,

we, the LGBTQIA+ community, also know how to fight! And HappyGayTV was also created for this purpose. As a matter of fact, I've always been firmly convinced that for years, those nauseating thoughts would come back. That's why, I created this channel on the web. Now more than ever it's very important to stand all together! That's why, it's absolutely important to share this video

on social networks, but also by SMS and e-mail, by any means! And I also invite you to join the loving HappyGayTV followers. It's easy, it's here, it's on HappyGayTV.com and it's free. And as you know, with us, the debate is still open, in full respect of each other. So, if you want to add to or review this interview, feel free to speak up,

by leaving us an audio or a video message on our social network, our internal messaging system, The Hot-Line. It's free and it's also here. The entire team is waiting with impatience and curiosity for your messages. On that note, my little ones, even if the situation is serious, I'll end this by saying: see you soon for new adventures and most of all, take good care of yourselves!

I love you! Ciao! Bye! [Voiceover] How to be gay and Happy
