THANKS a Paris Gay Pride, also known as the Marche des Fiertés(Pride March), has been the center of much controversy this year. Due to environmental concerns, authorities have imposed drastic restrictions, banning thermal tanks, and imposing sound systems. These measures elicited mixed reactions among participants and certainly gave Paris Gay Pride a less festive atmosphere than usual. Check out the video above, featuring a vox pop from the event, where people voice their opinions on these restrictions.

The less festive side of Paris Gay Pride 2023
To mark 10 years since the enactment of the marriage for all law in France, which paved the way for same-sex marriage, Paris Gay Pride was expected to be a memorable celebration. However, the restrictions imposed deprived the event of some iconic elements. Thermal floats, which were often accompanied by dancers in extravagant costumes, were almost absent. Additionally, towering sound systems that played upbeat music were restricted. These changes have undeniably contributed to a less festive and lively atmosphere.
Mixed reactions
The micro-sidewalk carried out during the Gay Pride in Paris made it possible to collect the various opinions of the participants. Some have strongly criticized the restrictions, saying they distorted the event and called into question the authenticity of the pride parade. They see it as an attempt to attack the LGBT community by depriving Gay Pride of its festive and demanding dimension, but also for lack of strong images, less media impact.
Some attendees believe the party is inseparable from Gay Pride and do not plan to return next year if restrictions persist. Others, aware of environmental issues, support the measures taken and call for broader reflection on the impact of festive events on the ecosystem.
Still others, mainly among the youngest, have taken these restrictions as a "symbolic" measure to raise awareness of the ecological emergency. They believe that priority should be given to preserving the environment, even at the expense of the party. Can we say that they are in favor of a “punitive” ecology?
Whatever your point of view, if you have never been to a gay Pride and if like some of our interlocutors, you do not see how the party can be altered with the presence or not of floats, we therefore suggest to watch now this magnificent video that we made on the occasion of the Gay Pride of Mas Palomas in the Canary Islands.

Paris Gay Pride 2022, a premonitory vision?
In this video Marco also refers to the video of the micro-sidewalk of Gay Pride in Paris in 2022, where we were already surprised by the decrease in the visibility of the word "Gay" in the event. The reflection focuses on the very meaning of "Gay Pride", pointing out that the word "Gay" also means "joyful" in French. This reference suggests an early tendency to question the festive and joyful nature of Gay Pride, in connection with societal and environmental changes. A premonitory vision?
